Mauritius sells a lot of excursions. Some are worth a full day and a taxi fare, and a good number are forty minutes of looking at something you can see from the road.
The honest split: the interior attractions (Chamarel, Black River Gorges, Trou aux Cerfs) reward a full day and a car. The island trips (Ile aux Cerfs, Ile aux Benitiers) reward an early start and punish a late one. The museums are mostly a rainy-day option.
